For auto repair shops

Built for shops, by an ex-shop owner.

Independent auto repair shops have specific digital needs — Tekmetric integration, CARFAX reviews, service-page SEO, photo triage — and the tech industry mostly ignores them. We don't.

Why is auto shop digital different?

Most "digital marketing for auto shops" companies are general marketing agencies with a thin auto-themed pitch deck. They don't know what Tekmetric is. They don't know CARFAX reviews matter. They write "5 Signs Your Brakes Are Failing" blog posts with AI and call it SEO. We're different because we've been on the shop floor — and because we built the canonical auto-shop site (Beacon Auto Care) from scratch, with the tooling to prove it.

By the operator

Written by the founder of Tend the Tech — a tradesman who learned to code. Decades on actual floors: facilities, server rooms, auto-repair shops, web, SEO. The work on this page reflects first-hand experience, not theory.

The auto-shop digital stack we tend.

Custom website

Astro + Tailwind. Service-specific landing pages (oil change, brake repair, check engine, AC, transmission, diagnostic, fleet, hybrid, European, etc.). Mobile-first. Schema-complete. Fast.

Google Business Profile

Setup, rescue, weekly posts in your voice, Q&A library, services list mirrored to website, photo refreshes, NAP audits, suspension handling.

Reviews across platforms

Google, Yelp, CARFAX, Facebook. Same-day replies in your voice. Review request flows. Aggregate rating schema on the website. Negative-review handling.

Tekmetric integration

Data feed pulling oil specs, fluid capacities, filter brands, refrigerant cutover. DVI viewer cleanup. Service-list sync between Tekmetric and GBP.

Automotive SEO

Service-page builds with real technical depth. AutoRepair schema. Internal linking. Competitor + keyword research per service. Local-intent optimization.

Photo triage automation

AI agent that sorts shop photos by quality, privacy, content type. Keepers routed to right pages with auto-generated alt text and schema.

Content QC

Every technical claim verified before publish. No generic generated content. The kind of content that earns trust with Google AND prospective customers.

Custom agents

Review reply drafter, GBP post generator, content QC, schema audit — all running quietly in the background, drafting work for your thumbs-up.

Proof: Beacon Auto Care.

Independent shop in San Mateo, CA. Owned by a friend. Site had been through multiple contractor handoffs and was a mess. GBP was barely tended. Reviews were sitting unreplied across Google, Yelp, and CARFAX. The owner had let his $300/month "web guy" retainer expire because nothing was happening.

We took the keys: GBP, hosting, domain, Tekmetric, Google Workspace, social profiles. Rebuilt the site from scratch on Astro + Tailwind — roughly 50 pages with full schema (LocalBusiness, AutoRepair, Service, FAQPage, Review), service-specific spokes, photo galleries, sample DVI walk-through, review system. Built six AI agents that run in the background. Tended GBP weekly. Replied to every review same-day.

Today the owner doesn't think about it. He texts when something needs to happen — a new service to add to GBP, a strange domain renewal email to check, a new review that came in. We handle it. We text "done." See the full Beacon case study for the work and outcomes.

What does your shop look like after we tend the digital side?

Your website ranks for the specific services you actually do, in your city. The Google Map Pack shows you in the top three for "auto repair near me." Every new Google, Yelp, and CARFAX review gets a same-day reply in your voice. Your GBP services list reflects what Tekmetric says you actually did this quarter. The bay phone rings, and when it rings the callers already trust you because they read your reviews and saw a real shop with real work — not a generic AI-blogged template site.

Owners describe the after-state as "my digital side runs without me being there." That's the elevation. You stay on the floor. The digital side stays tended.

What's different from the agencies that pitch you weekly?

  • · No retainer. Per-thing pricing. You pay for the work, when it ships.
  • · No discovery call. First text is free; quote follows by text within the workday.
  • · No deck. No Loom. One-line "done" texts when work ships. That's the entire reporting system.
  • · No generic content. Every technical claim is verified before publish. No "5 signs your brakes are failing" generated filler.
  • · Your accounts, your ownership. We work IN your accounts. You keep every key. We've never taken anything hostage.
  • · We've been on the floor. Auto shop owned and run. We know what the bay phone sounds like. We know what a bad customer feels like.
  • · Real Tekmetric integration. Not a thin "we know what Tekmetric is" pitch — actual data-feed integration with verified specs.

Want this for your shop?

Text us your shop name and what's bugging you about your digital side. We'll text back same day with a plain-English read. No discovery call. No deck. No Loom. Tech, handled.

Auto repair shop digital FAQ

Do you integrate with Tekmetric / Shopmonkey / Mitchell1?

+

Tekmetric specifically, yes — we've built integrations including a Tekmetric data feed that pulls oil specs, fluid capacities, and refrigerant cutover info into website service pages. Shopmonkey: we work with its public API where one exists. Mitchell1: legacy enterprise system, harder to integrate but possible for specific data exports. Tell us your shop management software and we'll tell you what's wireable. See our integrations page for the full integration model.

What's different about auto shop SEO?

+

Three things. (1) Local intent dominates — "auto repair near me" is your real query, not generic "car maintenance." (2) Service-specific pages outrank general pages — "oil change [city]", "brake repair [city]", "check engine light [city]" all need their own deep pages with real technical content. (3) AutoRepair schema (a specific schema type) plus AggregateRating from real reviews is the Map Pack accelerator. We do all three. See our SEO page for the general approach.

Can you write technical auto repair content that doesn't read like AI?

+

Yes. We have a research-before-write protocol — every technical claim (engine code, failure mode, repair recommendation) gets verified against authoritative sources (Diagnostic Network, manufacturer service info, indie tech writeups) before it ships. We don't have AI generate "5 signs your brakes are failing" and call it done. We document the verification trail so you (and Google) can trust the content.

What about CARFAX reviews for auto repair shops?

+

Hugely underused. Most shops have 50+ CARFAX reviews sitting there unreplied. CARFAX reviews count for local trust signals AND show up in Google search results. We tend them the same way we tend Google reviews — same-day replies, surfaced on your website, integrated into the review widget.

Do you build photo galleries of shop work?

+

Yes. We have a photo-triage agent that sorts shop photos by quality, privacy concerns (no customer cars visible without consent), and content type. The keepers get processed (cropped, color-corrected, alt-text-written, schema-tagged) and routed to the right pages — engine pictures to engine repair pages, AC pictures to AC pages, etc.

Can you handle the GBP services list for an auto shop?

+

Yes. The GBP services list is brutal — Google has its own taxonomy that doesn't match how shops actually describe work, and most owners have a chaotic list mixing real services with leftover defaults. We do a full audit, kill the noise, add the services you actually offer (using Google's canonical service names where possible, custom services where not), and keep it mirrored to your website's actual service pages. See GBP tending for the full GBP approach.

Do you do digital vehicle inspection (DVI) integration?

+

Light integration, yes — we can make Tekmetric's DVI links cleaner (custom URL, your branding, mobile-friendly viewer). We're not a DVI vendor — we work alongside whatever DVI system you use.

Do you manage Google Ads or Local Service Ads for auto shops?

+

No — and we'll tell you why straight. Most owners we talk to have either lost money to a Google Ads agency or are about to. The ROI is brutal for independent shops without a dedicated full-time PPC manager. We'd rather steer the money to GBP tending, review collection, and service-page SEO — where every dollar compounds. If you genuinely need PPC, we'll point you at a specialist who does it well.

Do you use call tracking software like CallRail?

+

Not by default. CallRail and similar tools introduce a layer between your customer and you, plus a recurring fee. For most independent shops we work with, the trade-off isn't worth it — Beacon Auto Care removed their CallRail layer when we took over, and call volume tracking is now handled via GBP Insights (which is free and good enough). Happy to wire CallRail back in if you want it, but we'll always tell you when the cheaper option works.

What does the Beacon Auto Care case study show?

+

Full website rebuild (~50 pages on Astro + Tailwind), GBP rescue and ongoing tending, review system across Google/Yelp/CARFAX, custom Tekmetric integration, multiple AI agents (photo triage, review reply, GBP posts), full JSON-LD schema coverage. See the full case study for the work and outcomes.

How much does digital management for an auto shop cost?

+

Per-thing pricing. A new service-page build runs $300–$1,500. A full GBP rescue runs $400–$1,200. CARFAX/Yelp/Google review tending is usually $50–$300/mo as the work happens (not a flat retainer). A full Tekmetric-anchored website rebuild on the Beacon model is in the $4,000–$10,000 range. Or roll all of it into the Full Tend arrangement with a monthly cap. See pricing for the full bands.
